NORDIC DIPLOMATS FOLLOW-UP ON CUTTING-EDGE CONTRIBUTIONS TO FQM
Diplomats from Sweden and Finland recently visited First Quantum Minerals’ two mines in Zambia’s North-Western Province to gain an understanding of the advanced technology used to extract copper from the area.
The delegation, which included Finnish Ambassador to Zambia Saana Halinen and Swedish Ambassador to Zambia Johan Hallenborg, visited FQM’s Sentinel Mine in Kalumbila and Kansanshi Mine in Solwezi.
The visit was organized to showcase the success of the partnership between Zambia and the two countries in the mining industry, and to highlight FQM’s contribution to the sector.
Both Finland and Sweden have a long history in mineral exploration and extraction and are home to some of the world’s leading suppliers of cutting-edge, environmentally conscious mining equipment.
During their visit, the ambassadors and accompanying delegates learned about FQM’s commitment to sustainable mining practices and its investment in modern products and services that optimize operations, increase productivity and improve safety.
Discussions throughout the two-day tour focused on the scale and productivity of the two mine sites, as well as the sustainability of their operations.
The ambassadors expressed their gratitude to FQM Zambia for the warm welcome and informative tours of these key mining operations in Zambia.
They also noted the importance of the mining industry for the Zambian economy and the wider impact of the mining sector for the surrounding communities in terms of sustainability and employment.
To conclude the visit, the delegates met with members of staff at Kansanshi Mining-supported Trident College and Kansanshi Foundation to gain further insight into the investments that FQM Zambia makes in education, agriculture and skills development as well.
