President Tshisekedi and Brookings Institution Discuss Profitable Mineral Exploitation for the DRC

President Félix Tshisekedi held a videoconference on Wednesday, July 24, with representatives from the American think tank, The Brookings Institution, to discuss strategies for making the exploitation of Congolese minerals more beneficial for the local population.

During the meeting, they discussed not only the revision of existing mining contracts but also the importance of profitable exploitation and on-site mineral processing to create jobs and foster a local industry.

President Tshisekedi emphasized that this approach aligns with efforts to diversify the Congolese economy and promote agriculture.

The discussions, centered on the theme “Challenges and Opportunities in the DRC,” also touched on the President’s ongoing efforts to stabilize the eastern region of the country, which has faced security issues for the past thirty years due to its rich underground resources coveted by foreign entities.

“We are determined to bring peace at any cost because without peace, there is no development,” President Tshisekedi stated.
