Presidents of DRC and Poland Discuss Security and Bilateral Relations

Last Friday, President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) held a telephone conversation with Polish President Andrzej Duda. The discussion focused on topics of mutual interest, including bilateral relations and the security situation in eastern DRC.

President Duda, on behalf of Poland, condemned the attempt to destabilize Congolese institutions on Sunday, May 19, in Kinshasa. He reaffirmed Poland’s commitment to peace, security, and the preservation of the DRC’s territorial integrity.

Addressing recent social media controversies regarding his visit to Rwanda, President Duda denounced the manipulations and expressed his eagerness to enhance the excellent relations between Poland and the DRC.

To strengthen bilateral ties, President Duda announced that Poland would send a special envoy to Kinshasa in the coming weeks to organize a Polish economic mission aimed at promoting trade and cooperation. The collaboration will focus on sectors such as security, agriculture, infrastructure, and technology.

Both leaders pledged to continue their dialogue to ensure their nations benefit economically, diplomatically, and politically. Presidents Tshisekedi and Duda are set to meet in September 2024 in New York during the UN General Assembly, preceding their planned official visits to each other’s countries.
