Rolls-Royce to Rebrand MTU Companies
British engineering group Rolls-Royce will rename and restructure the MTU companies, part of its Rolls-Royce Power Systems business unit, to improve brand recognition
Rolls-Royce originally acquired a stake in the engine business MTU back in 2011; this was as part of a takeover of the brand’s previous owner, diesel engine supplier Tognum, through a joint venture with automaker Daimler. Tognum then became Rolls-Royce Power Systems, and in 2014, it was fully acquired by Rolls-Royce.
As part of a new brand structure, MTU companies will have Rolls-Royce incorporated in their names, while MTU as the brand name will still be used to identify the company’s products and solutions.
Later this year, MTU Friedrichshafen will become Rolls-Royce Solutions; MTU America will start operating as Rolls-Royce Solutions America; MTU Onsite Energy in Augsburg will become Rolls-Royce Solutions Augsburg; and MTU Onsite Energy Systems in Ruhstorf will be renamed Rolls-Royce Solutions Ruhstorf.
The remaining subsidiaries will follow suit based on the above examples. The products of Bergen Engines will also be part of the new brand architecture, and the current MTU Onsite Energy brand for decentralised power supply systems will be integrated into MTU.
“The new brand architecture will provide clarity and improve the recognition of our company and its products,” said Andreas Schell, CEO of Rolls-Royce Power Systems.
