- Chamber of Mines Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control

- Computer literate
- 10 Years in a Ventilation department on a metalliferous mine
- People management skills
- Knowledge and understanding of legal aspects related to Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene.

Occupational Environment System.
- Co-architect the Occupational Environment component of the Life of Mine plan in conjunction with the Mine and General Manager, ensuring optimisation and efficiency of resources as per mine design.
- Align Occupation Environment system and program to strategic objectives and corporate guidelines and implement/adjust accordingly.
- Coaching and guiding line management in the use and application of the Occupation Environment system and program.
- Facilitating investigations/audits into specific accidents and incidents, and make recommendations to change/improve work methods and practices to prevent re occurrences.
- Analyse and interpret mine statistics and other data to identify special causes and recommend pro active measures to improve on conditions.
- Implement improved methods, technology and automation as agreed to by management.
- Participate in mine planning and use of available data and systems to recommend pro-active measures to meet the requirements of the mine, Occupation Environment System and legal requirements.
- Develop and maintain an Emergency preparedness program.
- Ensure that Mine and Department procedures, standards and methods are followed at all times. Report any anomalies to the supervisor and the Chief Ventilation Officer.
- Implement and Maintain an Occupational Hygiene System ad ensure monitoring thereof.
- Suggest campaigns and interventions to address the intended situations prevailing on the mine.
- Understanding the Work Management of BPF and ensure that the system is in place at the Business Units to incorporate Occupation Environment into the Work Management which will lead to alignment with the mine procedures and standards.
- Guide the accountability for Occupation Health and related activities back to line management.
- Develop a Working Relationship with other functions on the mine in order to establish engagement and participation at all levels.
- Establish and maintain programs and measure to improve the health exposure of employees
Standards and Procedures
- Assist in developing and maintaining an environment where health and safety is of paramount importance.
- Ensure that procedures, standards and methods are followed at all times.
- Report any anomalies to ensure that procedures, standards and methods can be amended if required.
Conducting risk assessments on various concerns
- Stop unsafe working places and practices, submit a sub-standard report to the responsible person and ensure that a copy of the signed sub-standard report is filed immediately.
- Conduct risk assessment in the working place and make recommendations to the crew for the rectification of sub-standard conditions.
- Conduct risk assessments with relevant Department when risks are encountered.
- Conduct risk assessment to update baseline risk assessment.
