Special Advisor to Zambian President Tours Kansanshi Mining Operations

Kansanshi Mining Plc’s Solwezi operations recently hosted Mr. Jito Kayumba, the Special Assistant and Advisor on Economic, Investment, and Development Affairs to President Hakainde Hichilema. His visit aimed to assess the progress of the Sulphide No. 3 (S3) expansion project at the mine site.

During the visit, Mr. Anthony Mukutuma, General Manager of Kansanshi Mining Plc, and the Corporate Affairs Manager, guided Mr. Kayumba on a tour of the mine and project areas.

A significant highlight of the tour was the commissioning of the fifth Hitachi EH4000 diesel electric dump truck (Fleet # RD173), which left a strong impression on the Presidential advisor.

Mr. Kayumba expressed his satisfaction that the US$1.25 billion investment announced by First Quantum Minerals (FQM) last year is now becoming a reality with the operational deployment of the first five Hitachi EH4000 diesel electric dump trucks.

He emphasized the importance of such investments for the country and commended the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investors.

Kansanshi Mining Plc’s General Manager, Mr. Mukutuma, also shared that ten more Hitachi EH4000 trucks (out of a total of forty-one) will be in operation by the end of December this year. He further revealed that Kansanshi is on track to commence production at the expanded plant by May/June 2025.
