Stakeholders Welcome Govt Stance On KCM ,Mopani
Stakeholders on the Copperbelt have praised President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and Government for finding resources to revamp operations at Mopani Copper Mines and resolving to settle the Konkola Copper Mine saga out of court.
Copperbelt Association of Mine Suppliers and Contractors President COSTA MWABA says the President’s pronouncements on Mopani and KCM have given hope to residents and stakeholders in the region.
Mr. MWABA has told the ZNBC News in Kitwe that the economy of the Copperbelt depends on a thriving mining industry and that to hear that the government has secured funding brings joy to the Copperbelt.
He said the association is also encouraged by the indication that matters affecting Konkola Copper mines -KCM- are being tabled by the government.
Mr. MWABA has, however, appealed to the government to establish the local content bill so that it can benefit local contractors and suppliers.
He said if the bill is put in place, local business people will stand to benefit more from the mines as it will give them priority when it comes to doing business with the mines.
Meanwhile, Chililabombwe Mayor LUCKY SICHONE says the government should return Vedanta Mineral Resources to stabilize the economy of Chingola.
