Purpose:

Reporting to the KMP Hydrometallurgical Manager and leading a specialist team, you will manage the operations of the Neutralizations Plant (Thickeners and Tailings Pumps + Piping systems) and the operations of Tailings Management Facility (TMF) to ensure it meets world class quality standards. Further, the role will work closely with our Dewatering Superintendent and team, consultants, both TMF design engineers and the Tailings Engineer, to develop the life of mine tailings strategy and plan, as well as maintaining best practice tailings deposition and management systems, and the site water balance.

Key Responsibilities:

The holder of this position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.

  • Establish the life of mine deposition requirements of the TMF, working with the design engineers and the process plant team.
  • Establish the method, determine how this method will be implemented, identify which equipment will need to be used and which expertise will be needed for the cyclone sand dam raise process.
  • Communicate all design related decisions and outcomes to the consultant Tailings Engineer and advise should plans need to be adjusted.
  • Lead the TMF operations team for implementation of the TMF design and document the ongoing construction process.
  • Ensure that required tailings deposition infrastructure, methods and operations as well as embankment design work is completed on time and in line with LOM operational requirements.
  • Managing the functions of construction quality control and oversee quality assurance on the TMF including necessary reporting;
  • Verify that freeboard, decants, infrastructure and access routes are properly maintained and report any remedial actions that are required.
  • Manage the TMF risk register which includes identifying risks throughout the mine life cycle, developing corrective actions to mitigate risk and monitoring the implementation of corrective actions.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in engineering (civil, geotechnical, hydrogeology or related discipline.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in tailings facility construction and operation.
  • Experience in embankment design and quality control.
  • High level understanding of civil and geotechnical issues.
  • Previous involvement in tailings deposition, tailings reclamation and water balance management is essential.
