Teck’s art of intelligence in mining
Teck Resources Limited is one of the global miners innovating now to enable it to stay on top of its #future mining goals, exemplified by its RACE21™ program. In a December 2020 presentation entitled The Art of Intelligence in #Mining, part of the The University of British Columbia Centre for #Artificial Intelligence Decision-making and Action (#CAIDA) Emerging Technologies: BC’s AI Showcase conference, Teck’s Kalev Ruberg gave some insights into what that future might look like for Teck’s ops. He showed a future mine simulation that included a mix of machines & technologies that are already available along with some that are in development. It included a #headsup display (#HUD) for a #remote control #mining shovel operator to see how much material they are loading into a #surge loader, based on the #Fully Mobile Surge Loader design developed by MMD GROUP, which decouples the shovel & truck to increase productivity & increase shovel utilisation. In the animation it loads smaller class 60-150 t cabless battery electric #mining trucks, with the potential to utilize a swarm of lower unit cost, lower tonnage trucks all with some form of #autonomous intelligence
