TFM launches asphalting work on 2.3 km of the Tenke road
TFM, in alignment with its social responsibility initiatives, has diligently worked since its establishment in the region to provide essential services to its neighboring community.
Through the Dotation-TFM, formerly known as the Community Social Fund, significant efforts have been made to bolster infrastructure in the Tenke agglomeration.
Notably, 2.3 kilometers of asphalt road are slated for construction, augmenting the existing 5-kilometer stretch already delivered through the TFM Community Social Fund.
The road slated for rehabilitation serves as the main artery of Tenke town, facilitating connectivity to national road no. 39, colloquially known as the Kolwezi road.
This comprehensive renovation not only improves urban accessibility but also fosters economic growth by connecting various neighborhoods and stimulating local commerce.
Furthermore, Tenke’s strategic significance within the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is underscored by its integration into the South Katanga railway network.
Tenke serves as a pivotal railway junction, linking the Benguela Railway from the west with the Cape Town – Cairo Railway in a south-north trajectory.
This connectivity extends Tenke’s reach to key destinations such as Kolwezi, Dilolo, Luena, Huambo, Lobito, Sakania, Lubumbashi, Kamina, and Kindu.
Amidst the enthusiasm of the local populace and the vibrant melodies of the folk group Lwanzo lwa Mikuba, the inauguration ceremony for the roadworks commenced on Wednesday, March 20.
Representatives from TFM, including Deputy General Director John Woto and Dotation-TFM representative Hugo Sinza, were present to mark the occasion.
Entrepreneur Invest Congo pledged to complete the road section within four months, subject to weather conditions, mirroring the quality standards set by the TFM Community Social Fund.
The road construction entails a 7-meter-wide wearing course, bordered by water drainage systems and concrete sidewalks for pedestrian safety.
Encouraging community engagement, the Provincial Director of the Social Promotion Fund urged residents to foster constructive relationships with TFM, emphasizing the company’s pivotal role as the benefactor of the DOT-TFM.
He lauded TFM’s proactive stance in establishing the 0.3% endowment fund, a sentiment echoed by various dignitaries in attendance.
Since November 2023, the TFM Community Social Fund has formally transitioned its responsibilities and assets to the Dotation-TFM, which, akin to its predecessor, receives a 0.3% allocation from TFM’s business revenues.
In recent years, the TFM Community Social Fund has spearheaded infrastructure projects, including the renovation of electricity networks in Tenke and Fungurume.
These initiatives underscore TFM’s unwavering commitment to enhancing community welfare and fostering sustainable development across its concession areas.
Through collaborative efforts and steadfast dedication, TFM continues to exemplify the transformative impact of corporate social responsibility in driving positive change and prosperity in local communities.
