The DRC government exported nearly 790,000 tonnes of copper metal in the first half of the year

DRC Ministry of Mines made public data on the export of mining products during the first half of 2020. These include copper, cobalt and diamonds. 

The Democratic Republic of the Congo sold 789,793 tonnes of metal copper and 38,816 tonnes of cobalt.
The local mining industry exported 761,230 tons of metal copper and 37,990 tons of cobalt, according to the data provided by the Ministry of Mines.

Of this volume, the public company, Générale des Carrières et Mines (Gécamines) exported only 5,536.69 tonnes of copper. 

7 private companies share the rest of the lot. It is : 

– Katanga Copper Company (KCC), which leads with 124,295.96 tonnes;

– Tenke Fungurume Mining (TFM) for a volume of 102,515.70 tonnes;

– SICOMINES with 40,799.40 tonnes;

– CDM and METALKOL exported 38,114.15 tonnes and 36,415.90 tonnes respectively; 

– MMG with 36,543.27 and SM DEZIWA which exported 31,431.10 tonnes.

Regarding diamonds, the Democratic Republic of the Congo exported a total of 4,174,337.74 carats of diamonds (industrial and jewelry) for a value of 42 million 910,039 USD. In this volume, industrial diamonds represent 3,782,549.38 carats and 391,788.36 carats of jewelery diamonds. 

Dubai and Belgium are the two leading importers of Congolese diamonds. Belgium leads the way with 3,082,184.13 carats of imported diamonds (For a value of 32 million USD 68,154) followed by Dubai with 950,513.83 carats for a value of 9 million 670,539 USD.
