The National Assembly sends a delegation of deputies to gather information on illegal explorations in South Kivu- DRC
Following the revelations on the illicit exploitation of minerals by Chinese companies in the territory of Mwenga (South Kivu), the office of the National Assembly dispatched a delegation of 8 national deputies led by Jean-Claude Kibala to collect informations. The mission is made up of elected officials from South Kivu and members of the environment, tourism, natural resources and sustainable development committee. It will not only collect information on the illegal exploitation of natural resources, but also on the destruction of the environment.
“We want to go and see how mining is done in South Kivu. We already have the names of the people who own the mines, we will check how it works, ”MP Dhedhe Mupasa, member of the delegation and rapporteur for the environment, tourism, natural resources and sustainable development committee told ACTUALITE.CD. .
The mines of South Kivu have been in the headlines for a week. Videos shot in Kamituga showing official delegations barred from accessing careers run by Chinese entrepreneurs sparked an uproar. During the Council of Ministers meeting on Friday, September 4, Prime Minister Sama Lukonde called on the Government to crack down on the perpetrators of this situation “which is also facilitated by the presence of armed groups which prevent the control of the State “.
The governor of South Kivu, Thé Kasi, has decided to suspend the activities of Chinese companies that illegally mine gold in Mwenga territory. But in Kinshasa, the Minister of Mines, Antoinette N’samba opposed this decision, specifying that it violates the mining code in particular. She asked the Deputy Prime Minister of the Interior to instruct the governor of South Kivu to revert his order.
