The price of tin has almost doubled over a year and is on the verge of recording its strongest annual increase in more than thirty years (30 years), note experts in the sector.

On the international market, tin is trading at 23,724.00 USD per ton on the London Stock Exchange this Monday, December 19, 2022, an increase of around +0.53%.

According to some experts, this surge in the price of tin is putting pressure on the sectors of activity that use it as soldering agents.

For automakers – where it is present in coatings, bearings, brake pads and batteries – rising metal costs add to the shortage of electronic chips and soaring aluminum prices and magnesium.

Tin has appreciated more than 90% this year on the London Stock Exchange, its biggest rise since its stock trading resumed in 1989, four years after the International Tin Council (ITC) disbanded.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), experts from the National Commission for Market Prices of the Ministry of Foreign Trade project, for the period from December 19 to 24, 2020, the price of tin at 24,355.00 USD per tonne against 23,600 USD last week, or around 755 USD.

These Congolese experts indicate that the general trend in the prices of mining products exported from the Democratic Republic of Congo is upward.

The ton of copper should climb to 8,438.60 USD on the international market for the period from December 19 to 24, 2022 against 8,337.25 USD per ton a week earlier, an increase of around 101.35 USD

Regarding zinc, the ton of the ore should sell at 3,366.90 USD this week against 3,113.50 USD per ton last week, a positive price difference of around 101.35 USD.

Gold should also register a slight increase in its price on the market this week to 57.82 USD per Kg against 57.28 USD per gram last week, i.e. a positive price difference of around 0.54 USD. .

The price of silver is expected to increase this week to trade at 0.75 per Kg against 0.72 USD per gram last week, a positive price difference of around 0.03 USD.

The price of cobalt is expected to trade low this year at 51,240.00 USD per ton against 51,248 USD the week before, a slight drop of around -8 USD.

In this batch of Congolese products which should experience a negative price variation this week is notably tantalum. This ore should record a slight drop to 360 USD per Kg against 362 USD per Kg last week, ie a negative difference of around -2 USD.
