The provincial government in DRC calls on mining companies to respect specifications in favor of indigenous communities
Georges Mawine Kaindu, Provincial Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons in Haut-Katanga called on miners operating in the provinces to respect the development of specifications in favor of indigenous populations. Which, according to him, falls within the framework of their social responsibility.
“The provincial government of Haut-Katanga, through its Ministry of Mines, invites all mining companies to proceed with the development of specifications in favor of local communities and execute them as soon as possible at the risk of undergo the rigor of the law “said this Thursday, Georges Mawine Kaindu, Provincial Minister of Mines in Haut-Katanga during a workshop with mining actors from the Katanga region.
For those who do not comply with respect for their social responsibility towards local communities, a series of sanctions are envisaged.
“An awareness-raising and popularization campaign will be launched, not only to speed up the process but also to inform the actors concerned of the content and the advantages that a mining company can derive from complying with the law which makes the preparation of a notebook mandatory. specifications in favor of indigenous populations, ”he added.
To date, only two companies have complied with the development of specifications in Haut-Katanga. Several others are lagging behind, said the Minister of Mines in the provinces.
