Zambia and Russia Explore Collaboration in Electric Vehicle Battery Production
In a groundbreaking move aimed at bolstering the electric vehicle (EV) industry, the Russian motor vehicle sector is actively seeking partnerships with Zambia to manufacture advanced EV batteries.
The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, recently expressed his country’s interest in establishing joint ventures with Zambia to facilitate the production of cutting-edge EV batteries.
Both nations have enjoyed a long history of warm bilateral relations, making this collaboration a natural progression.
The announcement was made during the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, where Zambian Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Stanley Kakubo, represented President Hakainde Hichilema. Kakubo emphasized the enduring ties between Zambia and Russia, which have spanned back to the pre-independence era.
During the summit, Kakubo reiterated Zambia’s commitment to fostering peace, security, and stability as essential catalysts for socio-economic development.
Furthermore, he highlighted Zambia’s vast experience in the field and President Hichilema’s active involvement in promoting preventive diplomacy, conflict resolution, peacemaking, and peace-building not only in Africa but also on a global scale.
By forging a strategic alliance between Russia and Zambia, the two countries aim to accelerate the production and advancement of EV battery technology, contributing significantly to the global shift towards sustainable transportation and reducing the carbon footprint of the automotive industry.
