Emphasizing the significance of being well-prepared for emergencies in the mining industry and local communities, Mr. Chilembo stressed the need to mitigate potential losses of both lives and property.

He urged the Zambia Mine Rescue Services to fully embrace their mandate, focusing on the delivery of efficient and cost-effective mine rescue services, as well as comprehensive training in emergency preparedness. This, he emphasized, was vital to ensuring the preservation of lives in the event of any unforeseen disasters.

He delivered his message during the Gala dinner and presentation of the Zambia Mines Rescue Final Heat competition in Livingstone, where NFCA Chambishi Mine won the first prize.

Mr. Chilembo further highlighted the significant cost implications that mine accidents bring upon both the mining operations and the lives of individuals involved.

Stressing the pivotal role of minimizing accidents, he underlined how it contributed to sustained productivity within the mining sector.

In the same vein, Abraham Kachonka, President of Zambia Mines Rescue, spoke about the association’s primary purpose – to foster progress in the Mines rescue domain through the exchange of information among various stakeholders.

Their collective efforts aimed to enhance emergency response measures and safety standards across the mining industry.

Proudly noting the accomplishments of the Mine rescue teams, Mr. Kachonka revealed that they had saved numerous lives and prevented hundreds of thousands of injuries.

These brave individuals had become a symbol of hope for millions of people worldwide connected to the mining sector.

The event served as a powerful reminder of the essential role played by the Zambia Mine Rescue Services and the significance of robust emergency preparedness measures in safeguarding lives and assets in the mining industry and neighboring communities. With continued dedication and cooperation among stakeholders, Zambia can strive towards a safer and more productive mining sector for everyone involved.
