Zambia to Leverage Economic Diplomacy for BEV Initiative Success
Zambia will utilize its strengthened economic diplomatic capabilities to ensure the effective implementation of the joint Battery and Electric Vehicle (BEV) value chain initiative, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mulambo Haimbe.
Speaking on Voice of America’s Nightline Africa, Mr. Haimbe highlighted the impact of Zambia’s economic diplomacy under the New Dawn government on regional stability, peace, and security in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
Zambia has partnered with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to establish a value chain in the electric battery and clean energy sector.
“We have engaged with the United States and our neighbors in Congo concerning critical minerals and the electric vehicle value chain,” Mr. Haimbe stated.
He also mentioned the Lobito Corridor, a trade route linking Angola, Zambia, and the DRC. Zambia is partnering with the US and its private sector to enhance trade and investment through this corridor.
“The goal is to elevate trade and investment to the highest possible level, providing a clear pathway for goods, services, and people from the US to partner and work with us,” Mr. Haimbe added.
