Kamoa Copper is approximately 25km west of the town of Kolwezi and about 270km west of the provincial capital, Lubumbashi. RANKED: Top 10 mines with world’s most valuable ore

In mining, grade is king. Across the commodity spectrum, some of the most anticipated results — which can determine the scope of a mining project — are assay values from drill testing. As one of mining’s most influential figures, Robert Friedland, sums it up: “Mining 101. High grade is good. Low grade is bad.” “The higher the grade, the smaller the environmental footprint, Friedland has said. “The higher the grade, the smaller the plant; the less the electrical consumption, the smaller the labour force, the smaller the tailings pond, the less the global warming gas per unit… Read More Here

Sandvik: The Technology Driving Mining’s Electrification Journey

The 2015 Paris Agreement saw 195 countries commit to making changes to prevent global warming from surpassing 2.0 °C above preindustrial levels, although ideally no more than 1.5 °C above. To meet these goals, all industries are under pressure to adopt new innovations that enable them to reduce their carbon footprint. To date, the mining industry is seen as one sector that has generally been slow to adopt new technology and it remains one of the world’s largest carbon emitters. Swedish engineering company sandvik  is spearheading the shift towards using sustainable… Read More Here

Zambia’s Chief Investment Officer, Hichilema Courts Dollar Bond Holders in London

The commodity boom is starting to push battery prices higher

The world’s biggest battery market is showing the strain of surging commodity prices. Chinese manufacturer Gotion High-tech Co. sent a letter to customers in mid-October seeking to adjust battery prices, citing a jump in the cost of cathode materials and electrolyte to copper and aluminum foil. The company said it “has tried its best to reduce the cost impacts but with little effect.”  Gotion’s move underscores a key hurdle the world faces in its transition to cleaner, greener energy sources. Electric-vehicle sales have soared as companies were able to make… Read More Here
