Zambian mining firm Konkola Copper Mines, a subsidiary of UK-based Vedanta Resources, has confirmed the expected cave-in at its Nchanga openpit mine has occurred without any injuries. The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has given all copper and cobalt companies a month to release confined workers by ending these practices  In an open letter, Labour Minister Nene Ilunga Nkula was quoted as saying that the spread of Covid-19 could be slowed down if the practice of restricting workers to the site ended. Two killed in Liberia gold mine collapse

Two people died when an informal gold mine in western Liberia collapsed early Tuesday, the National Disaster Management Agency said. South Africa’s mining deaths have reduced considerably over the past several years. In 2016, the industry recorded only 73 fatalities.
