President Holds Talks with Foreign Ambassadors on Eastern DRC Situation

President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) convened a meeting with Ambassadors Roxane De Bilderling of Belgium, Lucy Tamlyn of the United States of America, and Bruno Aubert of France at the African Union City on Thursday to address the security and humanitarian challenges in the eastern region of the country.

During the discussions, Ambassador Roxane De Bilderling emphasized the pressing security issues in the East, drawing from her recent visits to Goma and Bunia. She highlighted Belgium’s commitment to forming a rapid reaction brigade to address the situation effectively.

Ambassador Lucy Tamlyn of the United States reaffirmed her country’s dedication to collaborating closely with the new Congolese government led by the Prime Minister, emphasizing support for peaceful resolutions to the security crisis in eastern DRC.

Lastly, Ambassador Bruno Aubert provided updates on cooperation projects initiated since President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Kinshasa last year.

Discussions also touched upon preparations for President Tshisekedi’s upcoming visit to Paris, underscoring ongoing bilateral efforts between France and the DRC.

The meeting underscored the importance of international cooperation in addressing the complex challenges facing the eastern region of the DRC, with a focus on enhancing security measures and promoting peace and stability in the area.
