Tanganyika: the master plan for the new city of Kalemie explained to socio-political actors
The plenary room of the Provincial Assembly of Tanganyika on Wednesday 9 September served as a setting for the presentation of the master plan for the new city of Kalemie.
This project initiated in 2018 by the Honorary President of the Republic Joseph Kabila aims to extend the city of Kalemie in its north-eastern part, from the Kalemie terminal to the village of Lukwangulo and from Kainda to Kasambondo over an area of 40 km2.
The development work for this plan was carried out by the Newton company and open architekt, two Portuguese firms working in architectural and urbanization sector.
According to the provincial minister of infrastructure and urban planning Kitenge Chamugeya Fidèle, the objective of this plan is to solve the urbanization problems currently facing the city of Kalemie.
“The objective is to put in place a master plan is to solve the problems of urbanization, the problems of water drainage and compliance with urban standards of construction and land occupation. And the government is committed faithfully to the execution of this plan “declared the provincial minister of infrastructure and town planning.
For Dany Kambo, representative of Newton company, this plan defines the use of spaces. He described the current situation of the city of Kalemie, ex Albertville.
“Buildings, which I consider anarchic, on hills, without infrastructure and without any water pipes. It only takes a rain to find all the houses built on heights and their occupants on low surfaces. We must therefore establish the natural balance by creating places to relocate all those people who have built on hills, ”he suggested.
