TFM denies the accusations by the NGO SARW on possible environmental pollution in Kabombwa

The mining company Tenke Fungurume Mining (TFM) has denied accusations by the NGO Southern African Resources Watch (SARW) of possible environmental pollution in the village of Kabombwa in Lualaba province. This mining company made this known through a correspondence this Wednesday, September 7, 2022.
In this press release, TFM said it learned with “dismay” of the “accidental pollution” accusations against it by the NGO SARW. TFM says it has concluded “jointly with the community of Kabombwa and in full maturity adopted a constructive approach”.
As a result, Tenke Fungurume Mining indicates that all parties “were concerned during the moments of consultation on this pollution issue in Kabombwa”
“Indeed, under the aegis of the provincial authority, the parties concerned have met many times around a table in order to find a solution to this question. These meetings took place within a framework set up by the provincial authority. This is the ad hoc commission on the Kabombwa case. Its mission is to find practical solutions aimed at closing the file in peace and harmony to the satisfaction of all parties. This commission includes all tendencies, namely representatives of Lualaba province, local civil society, Kabombwa community, Fungurume commune and TFM.” the correspondence says.
Regarding the accusations of pollution, FM indicates that it refers to the conclusions of the investigation carried out by the four scientific laboratories, including the NGO SARW.
In a report, the NGO SARW returned to the research following accusations by local civil society and the Kabombwa community accusing the TFM hot plant of being at the base of the pollution “of the rivers, of the water, of the air in the village of Kabombwa”, accusations refuted by the mine.
