Zambia Advances 2,857MW Energy Pipeline to Strengthen Power Supply and Stability

The Ministry of Energy has announced major progress in Zambia’s energy generation projects, reaffirming the government’s commitment to stabilizing electricity supply and reducing the impacts of load shedding.

In a statement released on 30th November 2025, Minister of Energy Makozo Chikote highlighted the acceleration of a diverse portfolio of projects, including green city initiatives, rooftop solar installations, utility-scale renewable plants, and thermal (coal) energy developments.

Completed Projects: 347MW of New Capacity

The Ministry reports that 347MW of new generation capacity has already been completed, including:

100MW Chisamba Solar PV Plant

25MW Mailo Solar PV Plant in Serenje

Net-Metering installations contributing 14.7MW

These completed projects have already begun contributing to electricity stability across the country.

Ongoing Projects: 2,510MW Under Construction

A further 29 public and privately-led projects, totaling 2,510MW, are currently under construction and slated for commissioning between 2025 and 2026. Key initiatives include:

ZESCO Mansa Solar PV Project – 50MW

Maamba Phase II Thermal Plant – 300MW

CEC Itimpi II – 136MW

The Ministry has published a comprehensive project list on its website and social media platforms to provide transparency and keep the public informed about ongoing efforts.

Addressing Load Shedding and Ensuring Energy Security

Minister Chikote acknowledged public concerns over current load shedding and assured citizens that long-term solutions are being implemented. He emphasized that upon completion of the pipeline projects, Zambia will see:

Improved electricity stability

Enhanced energy security

Reduced power interruptions

He also noted growing investor interest in Zambia’s energy sector, highlighting strong support for bridging the country’s electricity gap.

Commitment to Reliable Power Supply

The Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to transparent communication, sustained infrastructure development, and the provision of reliable electricity to households, businesses, and industries across Zambia.

This accelerated energy development program positions Zambia to meet increasing demand, support economic growth, and transition toward a more sustainable and resilient power sector.
