Epiroc Expands African Mining Aftermarket Business with Eventspec Acquisition
Epiroc Acquires South African Mining Aftermarket Specialist Eventspec to Strengthen African Operations
Swedish mining equipment and services company Epiroc has completed the acquisition of South African mining aftermarket specialist Eventspec, strengthening its manufacturing and service capabilities in one of Africa’s largest mining markets.
Johannesburg-based Eventspec manufactures replacement parts for drill rigs, mine trucks and loaders, while also providing equipment rebuilds, repairs and maintenance services.
The company has around 125 employees and generated approximately R280 million in revenue in 2025.
The acquisition, initially announced in March 2026, has now been completed and will form part of Epiroc’s Equipment & Service business area, with the business recorded under service revenue.
Strengthening local capabilities
The deal gives Epiroc additional in-house engineering and manufacturing capabilities in South Africa, including specialised machining, fabrication, assembly and reverse-engineering expertise.
For mining companies, locally available aftermarket services can help reduce equipment downtime and shorten the time required to source replacement components an increasingly important consideration as operators seek to maximise equipment availability and control operating costs.
Eventspec’s established customer base in South Africa also gives Epiroc a stronger presence in the country’s mining aftermarket sector.
A broader African opportunity
The acquisition comes as mining equipment suppliers increasingly focus on aftermarket services, which provide recurring revenue through spare parts, repairs, rebuilds and maintenance throughout the life of mining equipment.
Epiroc expects the acquisition to expand its range of spare parts and related services across Africa and other international markets.
For Epiroc, the deal represents more than an expansion of its product portfolio. It strengthens the company’s ability to provide locally supported, end-to-end equipment services while increasing its manufacturing footprint in a strategically important mining region.
For South Africa’s mining industry, the acquisition could also support greater access to locally manufactured components and specialised technical services.
