An increase of 26% In Copper Production In Botswana Due To Robust Global Demand For The Metal.
Local Production of Copper in Concentrates increased by 26.0 percent (1,957 tonnes) from 7,517 tonnes during the third quarter of 2021 to 9, 474 tonnes during the the third quarter of 2022, Statistics Botswana reported recently.
The quarter-on-quarter analysis also
shows that production increased by 13.8 percent (1,150 tonnes) during the third quarter of 2022 compared with 8, 324 tonnes produced during the second quarter of 2022.
The increase was mainly attributed to the availability of efficient machinery coupled with strong demand for the commodity in the international market.
Botswana ‘s flagship Copper Mine is currently Khoemacau Copper Mine, located in the Kalahari Copper Belt near Maun.
In June this year Motheo Copper Mine in Ghanzi, also along the Kalahari Copper Belt is expected to start producing and exporting to the international market significantly increasing Botswana ‘s copper metals production alongside other operations such as Kopano Cooper Mine, previously known as Mowana.
