Lualaba Showcased Cobalt Leadership and Sustainable Vision at Mining Indaba 2026

Lualaba Positioned Itself as Global Cobalt Leader at Mining Indaba 2026 in Cape Town

At the 32nd edition of Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa, the province of Lualaba presented itself as a central player in the global mining industry, highlighting its status as the world’s leading cobalt-producing region and outlining its strategy for sustainable economic transformation.

Representing the province, Governor Fifi Masuka Saini addressed international investors and industry stakeholders, emphasising Lualaba’s strategic importance in the global energy transition.

She underscored the province’s responsibility as a key supplier of cobalt a critical mineral in battery technologies and renewable energy systems and reaffirmed its commitment to stable governance and sustainable investment.

The governor stated that Lualaba had positioned itself as a secure and investment-friendly province, operating under mining governance frameworks aligned with international standards.

She noted that provincial development efforts were supported by President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, with a focus on strengthening national sovereignty and promoting inclusive growth.

While reaffirming its dominance in cobalt production, Lualaba also signalled its intention to diversify its economic base. Provincial authorities highlighted opportunities in agriculture and energy, alongside mining, as part of a broader strategy to ensure value addition and long-term sustainability.

Engagements with investors at the conference reinforced the province’s objective of attracting responsible capital capable of generating employment and delivering tangible socio-economic benefits to local communities.

Officials stressed that participation in Mining Indaba formed part of a wider effort to integrate Lualaba more firmly into emerging global mining value chains.

The message delivered in Cape Town was clear: Lualaba aimed to consolidate its leadership in critical minerals while ensuring that resource wealth translated into lasting development and improved living standards for its population.
