Barrick Explores New Frontiers in Latin America and Asia Pacific

Barrick, a leading mining company, is forging ahead with its exploration efforts across Latin America and the Asia Pacific region, aiming to uncover new mineral deposits and sustain its operations in existing ones.

With a strategic focus on early-stage exploration and new frontier opportunities, Barrick is also dedicating resources to brownfields work, ensuring the longevity of its key assets like Veladero and Pueblo Viejo.

In the Dominican Republic, exploration activities around the Pueblo Viejo mine have yielded promising results. Drilling at the Pueblo Grande target has unveiled lithologies and alteration indicative of the Pueblo Viejo deposit, while the Zambrana area has shown mineralized breccias and shallow oxide mineralization, hinting at a separate mineral system. These discoveries underscore the potential for further resource expansion in the region.

Venturing into Ecuador in 2023, Barrick embarked on regional reconnaissance work in the southern Jurassic Belt, home to significant deposits like Mirador and Fruta del Norte.

Initial findings suggest the presence of epithermal and porphyry mineralization, laying the groundwork for future exploration endeavors.

In Peru, Barrick’s exploration footprint spans multiple regions, with the Pataquena target in the south poised for drilling in 2024. Meanwhile, the Libelula prospect near Pierina awaits permitting for drill testing. Barrick’s expanded land holdings in central Peru signify its commitment to unlocking new mineral potential.

Argentina remains a focal point for brownfields exploration, particularly around the Veladero mine. Ongoing metallurgical studies at Morro Escondido complement geophysical surveys and drilling initiatives across the Ortiga and Veladero trends, enhancing the prospectivity of the region.

Across the Asia Pacific region, Barrick is diligently assessing opportunities for growth. In Pakistan’s Reko Diq Copper Porphyry project, efforts are concentrated on delineating unexplored zones and refining geological models to support a feasibility study update.

Meanwhile, in Japan, drilling activities at the Mizobe target have intersected extensive breccia-hosted mineralization, signaling the project’s potential.

Generative teams are actively engaged in Chile, advancing targeting concepts and expanding knowledge of prospective areas in the Andes and the Guiana Shield.

These initiatives underscore Barrick’s commitment to sustainable growth and value creation, ensuring a robust pipeline of opportunities to drive future success.
