Barrick Mining Expands Executive Committee with Two Senior Appointments
Barrick Mining Appoints Chief Legal and Global Affairs Officers to Strengthen Government and Policy Strategy
Barrick Mining Corporation (NYSE: B; TSX: ABX) has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of two new members to its executive committee, reinforcing its focus on government engagement and public policy as strategic priorities.
The Toronto-based gold and copper producer announced the appointment of James J. McGuire as Chief Legal and Policy Officer and Woo Lee as Chief Global Affairs Officer.
The company said the changes underscore its commitment to enhancing institutional capabilities that support its strategy, social licence to operate, and long-term value creation.
McGuire brings more than 30 years of legal experience spanning civil and criminal litigation. He has represented leading corporations, financial institutions and individuals in complex legal and policy matters.
He joins Barrick from Greenspoon Marder LLP, where he served as a litigation partner and managing partner of the firm’s New York office. Earlier in his career, he was a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York.
At Barrick, McGuire will oversee the company’s legal, compliance, regulatory and public policy functions. Meanwhile, current Chief Legal Officer Poupak Bahamin will assume the role of General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer and remain a member of the executive committee.
Woo Lee, a Barrick veteran of more than 11 years, most recently served as Senior Vice President and Head of Government and Corporate Affairs for the Asia Pacific region.
In that capacity, he worked closely with government officials, business leaders and community stakeholders to advance the company’s strategic objectives.
In his new role as Chief Global Affairs Officer, Lee will lead Barrick’s worldwide government affairs strategy and manage sovereign and government relationships across all operating jurisdictions.
He brings more than 30 years of international experience, including service as a U.S. diplomat with the United States Department of State across the Asia-Pacific region.
Both McGuire and Lee will report to Barrick’s recently appointed Chief Executive Officer, Mark Hill, whose leadership transition was confirmed earlier this month.
