Bin Nassor Elected to Lead DRC Chamber of Mines as TFM Returns to Power
The election of Bin Nassor as President of the Chamber of Mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) marks the return of mining giant Tenke Fungurume Mining (TFM) to the leadership of the country’s key mining institution.
TFM, a major player in the Congolese mining sector, previously held this position several years ago. Nassor represented the CMOC Group, parent company of both Kisanfu Mining and TFM.
The election was held on Thursday, April 3, 2025, under the auspices of the Chamber of Mines—a commission of the Federation of Congolese Enterprises (FEC) that brings together operators in the DRC mining industry.
FEC/Katanga President Patrick Muland officially launched the electoral process. Before voting began, he convened a closed-door consensus session between the two candidates, invoking Article 50 of the FEC’s internal regulations.
This led to a mutual agreement to present a single candidate, confirmed by a show of hands from the FEC Board of Directors.
Cyril Mutombo of Kibali Gold, a gold mining company operating in Ituri Province and the acting Chamber President since Louis Watum’s appointment as Minister of Industry, graciously stepped down.
“I yield in favor of my elder, Bin Nassor, and pledge my full support,” said Mutombo in his address.
Following his election, Bin Nassor commended Mutombo’s sportsmanship and dedication to the mining sector. He also promised to pursue ongoing reforms initiated by his predecessor and to work collaboratively to strengthen the Chamber.
In his inaugural address, Nassor outlined a five-point agenda aimed at reinforcing the Chamber’s role in the national mining landscape. His priorities include:
- Improving the overall business climate;
- Finalizing reforms begun by the previous leadership;
- Securing financial and technical resources;
- Enhancing communication within the sector;
- Strengthening the security of mining sites.
The election concluded with a group photo and informal exchanges among attendees. A celebratory evening followed to mark what many hope will be a new era of collaboration and progress for the DRC’s mining sector.
