Boss Mining Calls for Action Amid Ongoing Looting and Armed Violence at Lualaba Site

Boss Mining, a joint venture between Eurasian Resources Group (ERG) and state-owned Gécamines, has issued a strong condemnation of continued looting and violence at its mining operations in Lualaba, Greater Katanga.

In a statement released on Thursday, June 5, 2025, the company revealed that since 2024, more than 200 trucks have been leaving its site daily with illicit shipments of copper and cobalt valued at approximately $1.8 million per day. .

This unchecked activity, the company stated, has deprived the Congolese government of hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue and undermines the national development agenda promoted by the President of the Republic.

The statement also reported that on the same day, the site experienced armed attacks directly targeting G4S security personnel, further compromising efforts to protect the area’s critical mineral resources.

Boss Mining has issued an urgent appeal to authorities, calling for immediate action to secure the Kakanda area and halt what it describes as “organized looting.”

The situation highlights growing concerns over the illegal exploitation of minerals, increasing militarization of mining zones, and the unauthorized presence of foreign actors at mine sites.

These practices have drawn criticism from civil society and industry observers, who warn that they are costing the public treasury substantial revenue and threatening the stability of the region’s mining sector.

Boss Mining is urging the government to step in decisively to restore order, protect legitimate operations, and ensure that the country’s mineral wealth benefits its citizens.
