CAMI Expands Operations with New Provincial Directorate in Lualaba Province
The Mining Cadastre (CAMI) is set to broaden its footprint in the province of Lualaba with the establishment of a provincial directorate.
This development was announced to Governor Fifi Masuka Saini on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, by Popol Mabolia Yenga, the Director-General of CAMI.
Accompanying Mabolia were Blaise Kiza, the Technical Director, and Ricky Katombe, the Provincial Director of Lualaba.
Governor Fifi Masuka Saini expressed appreciation for this initiative, deeming the establishment of a provincial CAMI directorate timely.
Given that the mining sector contributes significantly to the province’s revenue, particularly through the exploitation of abundant natural resources such as copper and cobalt by various international mining firms, the move is seen as crucial.
The introduction of CAMI in Lualaba Province signifies a pivotal step towards ensuring transparent and efficient management of the region’s mineral resources.
As the cornerstone of the Congolese extractive sector, CAMI oversees the administration of mining and quarry rights and issues related licenses.
This new CAMI representation will empower provincial authorities to enhance oversight of mining activities, ensure equitable distribution of mining revenues, and combat illegal practices in the sector.
By implementing modern and effective management tools, Lualaba Province aims to solidify its position as a leading player in the DRC’s mining sector, fostering sustainable and equitable development of its natural resources.
