Carter Center Delegation Visits MMG Kinsevere Mine to Review Community and Environmental Initiatives

Carter Center Leaders Tour MMG Kinsevere Mine, Evaluate Community Projects and Environmental Management

A 14-person delegation led by Ms. Paige Alexander, President and CEO of The Carter Center, visited the MMG Kinsevere mine on Friday, November 7, 2025, where they were welcomed by the mine’s General Manager, Mr. Yi Chen.

The visit focused on mining innovation, community project implementation, and environmental risk management.

The delegation toured the mine and processing facilities, including the RGA plant, regarded as one of Central Africa’s most modern copper processing sites. They reviewed the investments made in local copper processing and operational innovations.

Community Engagement at Kifita Village

In the afternoon, the group visited Kifita Village, one of the 26 riverside communities near Kinsevere. Students from the Kifita Institute welcomed the delegation.

The Carter Center team toured community facilities, including the secondary school, health center, and community center, engaging in a participatory exchange with Local Development Committees (LDCs) and chiefdom authorities from Kasongo and Shindaika.

Since 2020, the Carter Center has supported these local structures in developing Project Specifications, which outline priority community projects in health, education, water, agriculture, and infrastructure. Local Monitoring Committees ensure community oversight of these initiatives.

Project Achievements and Feedback

The 2020–2025 MMG Kinsevere Project Specification, concluding in December 2025, has achieved an implementation rate of over 85%, despite challenges.

The visit allowed the Carter Center to gather firsthand community feedback, evaluate the effectiveness of its support, and strengthen dialogue between the Kinsevere mine and local communities as planning begins for the next Project Specification cycle.
