China Marks 76th Anniversary with Stronger Economic Ties to DRC

Chinese Ambassador Highlights $3 Billion Contribution and 100,000 Jobs from Sino-Congolese Cooperation

At a ceremony marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Zhao Bin emphasized the significant economic gains from Sino-Congolese cooperation.

Speaking before an audience of political leaders, diplomats, and business figures, Zhao underscored the tangible impact of Chinese companies in the DRC during 2024.

Tangible Economic Contributions

According to the ambassador, Chinese companies created over 100,000 jobs in 2024, while their tax contributions exceeded USD 3 billion. Beyond fiscal benefits, Zhao highlighted corporate social responsibility projects that supported more than 300 Congolese communities.

A report by the Union of Mining Companies with Chinese Capital (USMCC) further revealed that:

USD 1.3 billion was invested in Congolese infrastructure projects.

Nearly USD 100 million was allocated to community initiatives.

Chinese mining companies sourced 90% of their agricultural products locally, providing a direct boost to the domestic economy.

Strategic Cooperation in Key Sectors

Zhao Bin framed these achievements as evidence of China’s commitment to making bilateral cooperation a driver of shared growth. He reaffirmed China’s readiness to expand collaboration in agriculture, mining, infrastructure, clean energy, digital technologies, education, and health.

“By working hand in hand, we can give the DRC new impetus for its development. China stands by the principle of win-win cooperation—without protectionism or unilateralism—and wishes to share the fruits of its progress with Africa,” Zhao said.

Strengthening Trade and Knowledge Transfer

China also pledged to expand technology transfer and training programs for Congolese professionals while facilitating market access for Congolese products. Initiatives include:

Exempting customs duties on 100% of tariffed Congolese products.

Leveraging platforms such as the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo to promote Congolese exports internationally.

A New Chapter in Relations

Ambassador Zhao concluded that these efforts mark a new phase in Sino-Congolese relations, rooted in a common ambition to build a future of shared prosperity.
