Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for highly committed and qualified individuals to be considered for the position of Condition Monitoring Engineer.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Condition Monitoring Coordinator, you will be responsible to develop and implement condition monitoring and predictive maintenance techniques, technologies, and interventions with the aim of improving asset performance. The Condition Monitoring Engineer will also be responsible for developing, maintaining and implementing Condition Monitoring standards with the aim of improving work practices and increasing asset life. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Responsibilities
- Spend time in the field interacting with the processing and maintenance staff, ensuring the ongoing effectiveness of the condition monitoring program.
- Provide input into the development/review of maintenance strategies in consultation with all stakeholders to ensure that PM’s and other maintenance activities will safely deliver the desired equipment performance and to maximize equipment availability and reliability.
- Provide input into the definition of equipment maintenance strategies.
- Provide input into the review/update of PM tasks and activities as part of ongoing continuous improvement ensuring all PM’s and activities have clear purpose in assessing condition and preventing failures.
- Implement condition monitoring and predictive maintenance techniques and interventions for rotating machines with a focus on vibration analysis, oil analysis, non-destructive testing, thickness survey, lubrication, thermography, and Pressure Vessels Inspection.
- Investigate and implement new technologies with relation to condition monitoring practices.
- Monitor equipment wear rates and use the data to optimise timing/scheduling of tasks.
- Liaise with Maintenance Planners to ensure that all corrective work arising from CM inspections are planned in SAP and ready to be executed in a timely manner to pre-empt equipment failure. Experience & Qualifications
- Must have Grade 12 full School Certificate
- Degree/Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
- Member of Engineering Institution of Zambia
- At least three (3) years practical experience in a maintenance environment, preferably in mining/minerals processing
- Knowledge of Condition Monitoring techniques biased towards Vibration Analysis and Thermograph.
- Knowledge of Maintenance and Reliability Systems (ERP or CMMS, preferable experience with SAP)
- Understanding of Predictive Maintenance and Lubrication.
