DR Congo’s Mining Companies Raise $3.5B in 2020-2021
More than US$3.5 billion has been mobilized by five of the nine state-owned mining companies in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) during the period from 2020 to 2021.
This is what the report of the initiative for transparency in the extractive industries (ITIE) informs.
EITI researchers indicate that five (5) of the nine (9) mining companies under public law have made payments as part of the effort to contribute to the state budget. These are the following public enterprises (EP): GECAMINES, COMINIERE, SAKIMA, SODIMICO and SACIM.
During this period, GECAMINES paid as part of the contribution effort to the budget the sum equivalent to 2,180,472.45 USD; followed by SACIM which mobilized 1,200,000.00 USD.
In addition, COMINIERE, SAKIMA and SODIMICO respectively contributed 15.130 million USD; 25.217 million USD and 81.862 million USD.
It appears from this analysis of the EITI that with regard to the payment of dividends, in practice, none of the nine (9) public companies paid dividends to the State.
As a reminder, in 2019 only GECAMINES and SACIM achieved profit results of USD 148.91 million and USD 5.14 million respectively.
The report notes that SACIM is the only company to have paid the State a dividend of 751,000 USD during the year under review.
