DRC and Kazakhstan Sign Key Mining and Industrial Cooperation Agreements
DRC and Kazakhstan Forge Strategic Mining Partnership, Expand Cooperation in Energy, Infrastructure, and Education
During his official visit to Kazakhstan, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix Tshisekedi, witnessed the signing of a landmark memorandum of cooperation in the fields of mining and geology between the DRC and the Republic of Kazakhstan on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
The agreement was signed by Louis Watum, DRC’s Minister of Mines, and Yersayin Nagaspaev, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Construction. Beyond mining and industrial value chains, Kazakhstan also expressed its commitment to expanding cooperation in agriculture, infrastructure, transport and logistics, energy, climate initiatives, and education.
In his address, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating that the DRC is “an important and reliable partner for Kazakhstan in Africa.”
He further highlighted the shared vision between the two nations:
“We share high-level political intentions, vast trade and economic potential, and common cultural and humanitarian goals. The results of today’s negotiations reflect this commitment, and we have agreed to elevate our bilateral relations to a new level in the spirit of mutual support and understanding. We have reached significant agreements that serve the interests of both countries.”
As part of the visit, Guy Robert Lukama Nkunzi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gécamines, also signed a collaboration agreement with Kazakhstan’s Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), a major mining company operating in Kolwezi, DRC.
This new wave of agreements marks a strategic step in strengthening economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations, opening the door to long-term cooperation across multiple sectors.
