DRC Cobalt Prices Remain Stable as Global Demand Supports Market

DRC Cobalt Prices Edge Higher as Demand for Battery Metals Maintains Market Stability

Cobalt prices in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continued their gradual upward trend during the week of July 20–25, 2026, reflecting ongoing stability in the global battery metals market.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Trade’s latest official price list, cobalt was priced at US$55,628 per tonne, up slightly from US$55,618 per tonne the previous week.

While the 0.01% increase is marginal, it signals continued market resilience following months of significant price volatility.

The modest gain comes as global cobalt markets balance evolving supply dynamics with sustained demand from the electric vehicle and energy storage industries. Market sentiment also continues to be influenced by production trends, regulatory developments, and growing investment in critical minerals.

As the world’s largest producer of cobalt, the DRC remains central to global supply chains for battery materials.

The country accounts for the majority of global cobalt production, making price movements closely watched by investors, mining companies, and manufacturers.

Cobalt is a critical component in lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and large-scale energy storage systems, making it an essential mineral in the global transition to cleaner energy technologies.

For the DRC, cobalt prices remain a key economic indicator, as mining exports continue to play a vital role in generating foreign exchange earnings and supporting national economic growth.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade publishes weekly reference prices for the country’s major mineral exports to provide guidance for industry participants and track developments in international commodity markets.

Although this week’s increase was modest, it underscores the continued strength of the cobalt market and reinforces the DRC’s strategic importance in meeting growing global demand for critical minerals.
