DRC Gold Trading SA Injects $27M into Maniema by Formalizing Artisanal Gold Trade

$27M Boost from DRC Gold Trading SA in Two Months

Between March 25 and May 25, 2025, DRC Gold Trading SA achieved a significant milestone in the Maniema province of the Democratic Republic of Congo by channeling over 280 kilograms of artisanal gold through official and traceable circuits.

This initiative resulted in the injection of more than $27 million into the local economy of Kindu, primarily through banked payments to local gold traders.

This operation marks a turning point for Maniema’s economy, which has long been dominated by informal and unregulated gold trading.

By establishing a structured purchasing system, DRC Gold Trading SA has integrated a substantial share of the province’s artisanal gold production into the formal economy.

According to data shared by the company on the social media platform X, over 280 kg of gold was legally acquired from artisanal miners and local traders during the two-month period.

At an average market price of $72,000 per kilogram, this equates to more than $20 million in gold purchases.

The full financial impact reached $27 million, reflecting additional funds injected into the economy through secure banking channels.

DRC Gold Trading SA’s business model is built on two core principles:

Traceability: Ensuring that artisanal gold is traceable at every stage to fight fraud and illegal smuggling.

Banked Payments: Promoting transparency by moving financial transactions from cash-based to bank-based systems, helping integrate the informal mining sector into the national economy.

“This sends a strong signal to mining provinces: artisanal gold can be bought locally, legally, and at fair market prices—while delivering direct benefits to local communities,” said a company executive.

This initiative aligns with the vision of President Félix Tshisekedi, who has prioritized the regulation and formalization of artisanal mining as a cornerstone of economic sovereignty in the DRC.

The experience in Maniema demonstrates that natural resources can be transformed into national economic assets through a transparent, equitable, and well-regulated system.

Building on the success in Maniema, DRC Gold Trading SA plans to replicate this model in other gold-producing provinces, contributing to:

The formalization of artisanal mining operations

Enhanced public revenue collection

Long-term economic empowerment of local communities

This marks a sustainable step forward in reshaping the Congolese gold sector, turning it into a reliable and transparent pillar of national development.
