DRC Mines Minister Louis Watum Kabamba Launches Mission to Boost Mining Development in Ituri and Haut-Uélé

Bunia, Democratic Republic of Congo — Warmly welcomed at Bunia Airport, Minister of Mines Louis Watum Kabamba launched a field mission to the provinces of Ituri and Haut-Uélé on Saturday, October 4, 2025.

The mission aims to reconnect the Ministry of Mines with local realities and reaffirm the Government’s commitment to making the mining sector a driver of community development.

“I came to the field to take the temperature, bring the ministry closer to local realities, and listen to communities and mining operators so that together we can find concrete solutions,” Minister Kabamba told the press.

A Mission at the Heart of Mining Realities

The Minister’s itinerary includes meetings with provincial authorities, visits to mining companies, direct exchanges with mining operators and artisanal cooperatives, dialogues with civil society and traditional leaders, and community sessions to hear grievances and expectations.

This participatory approach reflects his commitment to promoting inclusive and responsible management of natural resources.

Commitment to Stability and Transparency

The Minister’s presence in these strategic provinces demonstrates the Government’s determination to make Ituri and Haut-Uélé modern and secure mining hubs. Kabamba emphasised the importance of transparency, traceability, and accountability to restore trust between the state, investors, and local communities.

A Strong Government Message

This mission, continuing in Haut-Uélé, embodies a new governance approach — one that prioritises listening, direct action, and proximity as tools for transformation.

“The DRC is being built on its mining provinces,” said the Minister, underscoring the strategic role of the extractive sector in driving the country’s economic recovery.

For Ituri and Haut-Uélé, regions long challenged by security and economic difficulties, this visit represents a symbolic turning point and a sign of renewal.
