DRC Minister of Foreign Affairs Reports on Washington Peace Agreement Signing

DR Congo’s Foreign Minister Presents Original Peace Agreement to President Tshisekedi After Washington Signing

Returning from Washington, United States, where she signed the Peace Agreement on behalf of the Republic of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Thérèse Kayikwamba, along with presidential experts involved in the process, were received on at the Mont Ngaliema Presidential Palace to report on their mission.

At the outset, Mrs. Kayikwamba presented the original copy of the Peace Agreement and a letter from her U.S. counterpart, President Donald Trump, to the Head of State.

The content of this letter has not been disclosed. However, the State Minister indicated that it is related to a summit of Heads of State that President Trump plans to organize in Washington following the Peace Agreement.

During the meeting, President Félix Tshisekedi congratulated Minister Kayikwamba and her team for their efforts.

“We reviewed the events of June 27 and looked ahead to the future with strategic priorities for the DRC: to ensure that this agreement is properly implemented and that we fulfill all our obligations; likewise, we expect the other signatories, including Rwanda, to honor their commitments,” said Mrs. Kayikwamba.

Regarding the next steps, Mrs. Kayikwamba stated that the Head of State, the main architect of this agreement, will establish a dedicated team to monitor its implementation.

As for the high-level meeting announced by President Trump, it is confirmed to take place in October.

Besides Minister Kayikwamba, the delegation of Congolese experts included the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Head of State, André Wameso; the Special Envoy of the Head of State, Patrick Luabeya; the High Representative of the Head of State, Sumbu Sita; Major General Augustin Mamba; the DRC Ambassador to the United Nations, Zenon Mukongo; and expert Jean-Claude Kabongo.
