DRC Mining Minister Calls for Innovation, Cooperation, and Good Governance to Build a Sustainable Mining Future

The National Minister of Mines participated on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in the Development Session on Sustainability in the Mining Sector, organized by the Embassy of Sweden at Espace Texaf Bilembo in Kinshasa. The event was held under the theme:

“How Innovation, Responsibility and International Cooperation Are Influencing the Future of the Mining Sector.”

This high-level forum brought together representatives from government, the private sector, civil society, and international partners to discuss how to build a more responsible, transparent, and sustainable mining industry in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In his remarks, the Minister of Mines commended the relevance of the theme and the quality of the discussions, stating:

“The Congolese mining sector will only be sustainably developed if we make a collective effort to improve it. There are no spectators — everyone is an actor.”

He emphasized the importance of international cooperation and technological innovation, particularly in the use of remote sensing, satellite data, and artificial intelligence to accelerate mineral exploration while ensuring full compliance with environmental and social standards.

The Minister also highlighted the need for transparency, traceability, and good governance as key foundations for responsible resource management. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring an equitable distribution of mining wealth that supports the sustainable development of the DRC.

The session, moderated by the Swedish National Council for Industry (NIR), featured contributions from several major institutions and companies, including Volvo/SMT, Sodeico Holding, Resource Matters, and the Olof Palme International Centre.

Participants shared experiences and explored collaborative pathways toward a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable mining value chain.
