DRC Prime Minister Briefed on $100m Lake Kivu Methane Gas Extraction Project
The Congolese Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, received in audience, on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the Primature, in turn, the Ambassador of Egypt and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tunisia in the DRC .
With the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tunisia in the DRC, Bouzekri Rmili, the Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, discussed the issue of the project to extract methane gas from Lake Kivu.
According to Bouzekri Rmili, this project only awaits the signing of the presidential order for its implementation.
“I had the honor of being received in audience by His Excellency the Prime Minister. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss Tunisian investment projects. We have a major project, that of extracting methane gas from Lake Kivu.
We are waiting for the order to be signed. I had a guarantee from his Excellency the Head of Government that we will have this order as soon as possible.
It’s a big project valued at $100 million. This project will develop the entire Kivu region. I am convinced that with his Excellency the Head of Government, there will soon be the signing by his Excellency the President of the Republic of the ordinance. And we’re going to start the work right away.
And Tunisian society intends to train Congolese for this mission. This Kivu pool company has a Congolese partner and a Tunisian partner. It is a South-South cooperation project par excellence. “, said the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tunisia at the end of the audience.
For his part, the Egyptian Ambassador to the DRC, Mr. Hesham Elmekwad, paid a courtesy visit to the Congolese Head of Government. There was talk of strengthening bilateral cooperation between their two countries.
