DRC Reaffirms Commitment to Responsible Mining at OECD Forum in Paris
On an official visit to Paris, the Deputy Minister of Mines, Godard Motemona, represented the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the 18th edition of the OECD Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains.
Speaking before African Ministers of Mines and global stakeholders, Motemona reaffirmed the DRC’s commitment—under the leadership of President Félix Tshisekedi and Prime Minister Judith Suminwa—to play a pivotal role in the global energy transition as a key source of strategic minerals.
He emphasized the country’s vast mineral potential and advocated for increased local processing, improved mineral certification, and the formalization of artisanal mining to ensure sustainability and shared benefits.
Motemona also underscored the DRC’s active engagement in international initiatives promoting responsible mineral sourcing, despite ongoing security challenges in the eastern regions.
He concluded by echoing President Tshisekedi’s call for peace and stability, expressing hope that ongoing efforts will yield tangible, lasting solutions for the nation and its people.
