The Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda signed on Saturday June 26 at the Serena Hotel in Goma three cooperation agreements. It was on the sidelines of the visit of Rwandan President Paul Kagame to Goma at the invitation of his Congolese counterpart, Félix Tshisekedi.

The first government agreement concerns the promotion and protection of investments. It was signed by the foreign trade ministers of the two countries, reports the Presidential Press.

The second agreement is an agreement between the two countries in order to avoid double taxation and prevent tax evasion with regard to income taxes signed by the finance ministers of Rwanda and the DRC.

The last contract is a memorandum of understanding of cooperation between the gold company of Kivu-Maniema (SAKIMA SA) and DITHER LTD signed by the general managers of the two companies.

During the joint press briefing which sanctioned this bilateral meeting, the two heads of state reiterated their commitments to continue their collaboration for the consolidation of relations between the two countries for the benefit of their respective populations.

“We have wasted many years looking at each other like faience dogs, the time has come to share peace, love and fraternal and economic exchanges between the two countries,” said President Felix Tshisekedi.

As for Paul Kagame, he   affirmed that his country is committed to helping the DRC in its fight against insecurity in the region. “Insecurity prevents the economic development of the two states,” said the president of Rwanda.
