DRC total gold production in the 1st half of 2022 amounts to 13,107.33 kg, a decrease in quantity of 13.69% compared to 2021

Total gold production in the DRC amounts to 13,107.33 kg of gold in the first half of 2022 against 15,185.83 kg in the first half of 2021. This shows a drop of 2,078.49 kg, i.e. 13 .69%, according to statistical data published by the Technical Unit for Coordination and Mining Planning (CTCPM), an advisory, study and coordination body for mining activities in the DRC.

The CTCPM reports that gold production is still predominated by industrial mining based mainly in the Haut-Uélé Province, while that of artisanal mining is scattered in almost all the provinces of the country.

This production is distributed as follows: a. 13,010.40 Kg of industrially mined gold produced by Kibali GoldMines; 

b. 96.94 Kg of gold from artisanal mining come from the following provinces, listed in descending order:

– Low-UELE: 28.70 Kg, or 29.61%;
– South Kivu: 15.25 kg, or 15.73%;
– Ituri: 11.03 kg, or 11.38%;
– High-UELE: 10.30 Kg, or 10.63%;
– Maniema: 9.87 kg, or 10.18%;
– Tanganyika: 9.77 kg, or 10.08%;
– Tshopo: 6.09 kg, or 6.29%;
– North Kivu: 4.03 kg, or 4.16%;
– Nord-Ubangi: 1.81 kg, or 1.87%;
– Kongo Central: 0.08 kg, or 0.08%.

Total exports for the current period are: 12,727.44 kg for a value of USD 520,340,999.00 broken down as follows:

• 12,699.12 kg for a value of USD 519,411,031.00 from industrial exploitation;

• 28.32 kg for a value of USD 929,968.00 from artisanal mining from the following provinces:
– Kinshasa: 4.22 kg or 14.90% for a value of USD 244,431;
– South Kivu: 18.56 kg or 65.53% for a value of USD 389,171;
– North Kivu: 0.24 kg or 0.86% for a value of USD 12,796;
– Tshopo: 2.11 kg or 7.45% for a value of USD 114,544;
– Tanganyika 3.19 kg or 11.26% for a value of USD 169,026.

During the same period, total exports of raw gold amounted to 12,727.44 Kg for a value of USD 520,340,999.00, against 15,663.47 Kg for a value of USD 622,762,354.00 on the 1st half of 2021, i.e. a drop of 2,936.03 kg equivalent to 18.74%.
