DRC’s Glencore Reports Impressive 18% Surge in Copper Production for Q4 2022
Glencore, one of the world’s leading copper producers, announced that it would produce 220,000 tonnes of copper in 2022.
Present in the three largest producing countries of the red metal, namely Chile, Peru and the DRC, the Swiss raw materials giant Glencore communicated its 2022 statistics in an activity report published on October 30, 2023.
The report indicates that during the period under review, Glencore’s Congolese mines delivered 68,900 tonnes of copper, up 18% from the second quarter.
This performance, the best since the start of the year, brings its production for the first nine months to 189,100 tonnes of copper, an increase of 8% year-on-year.
Cobalt production, on the other hand, remained stable, at 30,800 tonnes for the first three quarters, only 400 tonnes more than for the first three quarters of 2022.
Glencore contributes with its assets to the DRC’s status as the third largest copper producer in the world. The Swiss company also operates mines in Chile and Peru, respectively the first and second producers of the red metal in the world.
In 2023, Glencore targets copper production of 1.04 to 1.3 million tonnes. Its mines have already delivered 735,800 tonnes during the first nine months of the year.
