DRC’s Major Economic Gathering on Gold Scheduled for October 24-25, 2023
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is preparing to host the national gold days, known as “Wolo,” from October 24 to 25, 2023. To this end, the organizing committee for this event, led by Prince Nyampala, has had discussions with the Chamber of Mines of the Federation of Congolese Enterprises (FEC), represented by its coordinator, Bernadette Pundu, to refine the strategies for the success of these proceedings.
According to the President of the Organizing Committee for this event, the efforts made in the gold sector of the Democratic Republic of the Congo should primarily benefit the nationals.
“We have the privilege of having an information session with the members of the Chamber of Mines of the Federation of Congolese Enterprises (FEC), as well as other partners. During this working session, we not only provided an overview of the event scheduled for October 24 and 25, including exhibitions, debates, and reflections, but also technical details,” he stated.
Bernadette Pundu, the coordinator of the Chamber of Mines, expressed her organization’s readiness to support the “Wolo” project’s organizing committee.
“The Chamber of Mines is a department of the FEC. You cannot talk about the gold of the DRC without involving the Chamber of Mines. We have had some members of the Chamber of Mines. We have also received some members of the Presidency through the Presidential Council for Strategic Watch (CPVS),” Bernadette Pundu explained.
The gold sector in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is increasingly attracting attention, especially from foreign investors and Congolese policymakers.
In just seven months of operation, Primera Gold, a company specializing in the purchase of artisanal gold, has mobilized over 3 tons of gold, whereas a few years ago, the country exported barely 30 kilograms of gold per year.
Thanks to the Primera Gold joint venture, the revenues from the gold sector in the Democratic Republic of the Congo reached a record volume of $1.2 million by the end of August 2023, compared to a modest sum of $50,000 for the entire year in 2022.
