DRC’s public and private sectors called upon to work together for a qualified workforce
During the inaugural day of the DRC-Africa Forum on battery metals, the issue of a qualified workforce in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) took center stage.
The forum, themed “Creating Wealth in the Battery Metals Value Chain in the DRC and Africa,” brought together stakeholders from both the private sector and government to discuss this critical matter.
Mining companies in the DRC emphasized the need for a change in the national training policy to address the shortage of skilled labor, which has been a concern for investors. They highlighted their significant efforts in training a competent workforce within the country.
Government experts in the debate reassured participants that steps are being taken to establish professional training centers to meet the demand for skilled workers.
President Félix Tshisekedi initiated a project known as “Musala” in Kinshasa’s Mombele district, with the goal of supporting thousands of young people and enhancing their employability by 2025.
The project includes the development of an educational, technical, and digital system to promote practical training.
Collaboration between the private sector and the Congolese Government has also been encouraged to support various initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s qualified workforce through professional training.
This collective effort reflects a commitment to addressing the workforce challenges in the DRC’s burgeoning battery metals industry.
