First Quantum Minerals Empowers Zambian SMEs at 2025 Trade Fair
First Quantum Minerals (FQM) has reaffirmed its commitment to Zambia’s economic transformation by sponsoring 27 local Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to participate in the 2025 Zambia International Trade Fair in Ndola.
This initiative supports the Government’s efforts to boost local content and strengthen business resilience, in line with the fair’s theme: “Enhancing Business Resilience through Innovation and Trade.”
FQM’s sponsorship is part of its broader Supplier Development Programme, which aims to empower Zambian businesses within the mining value chain.
The programme offers mentorship, access to finance, skills development, and structured enterprise support to help SMEs grow and compete effectively.
During the official opening of the Trade Fair, FQM Country Manager Dr. Godwin Beene emphasized the company’s long-term commitment to inclusive economic growth.
“Building local capacity isn’t just good for communities—it’s good for business. We believe Zambians should supply Zambian mines,” said Dr. Beene.
He further stressed the importance of strategic partnerships in supporting SME growth through training and expanded market access.
“We’re investing in a thriving ecosystem of competitive Zambian businesses,” he added.
Minister of Finance and National Planning Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane praised the resilience of the private sector and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to creating an enabling business environment.
“Innovation means encouraging the private sector to lead, while the Government ensures the right conditions for success,” he stated.
FQM’s active role at the Trade Fair underscores how private sector leadership can drive national development and create opportunities for local entrepreneurs in the mining sector and beyond.
