Founder and Former CEO of FQM Philip Pascall, Passes Away

Toronto-listed First Quantum Minerals announced the passing of its co-founder and former CEO, Philip Pascall, on Tuesday 19th September. Pascall passed away at his residence in Perth, Western Australia.

Philip Pascall, a key figure in the mining industry, co-founded First Quantum in 1996 and served as its Chairperson from the company’s inception until 2022.

Under his visionary leadership, he instilled an entrepreneurial and daring culture that propelled the company’s growth from a modest 10,000-ton tailings re-processor with the Bwana Mkubwa project in Zambia to one of the world’s leading copper producers.

First Quantum Minerals expanded its operations to span five continents and now employs over 20,000 individuals worldwide.

In the wake of Philip Pascall’s passing, the company has appointed Robert Harding, the lead independent director, as the interim Chairperson.

Harding expressed heartfelt condolences to the Pascall family and friends on behalf of the board of directors, recognizing Philip’s significant contribution to the company’s journey.

“We are all indebted to Philip for his extraordinary leadership at First Quantum, setting us firmly on the path to becoming the modern, multinational mining company that we are today. Philip was not only a leader but also a friend and mentor, and his vision touched the lives of many,” said Robert Harding.

“While this loss is immeasurable for all of us at First Quantum, Philip would want us to focus on the future. He was always forward-looking and excited about the company’s trajectory,” remarked Tristan Pascall, First Quantum’s current CEO.

Tristan Pascall also highlighted Philip’s pivotal role in driving the company’s commitment to project execution, operational excellence, and social responsibility. First Quantum Minerals intends to carry forward and build upon the substantial legacy left by its founder, Philip Pascall.
